Charter Day 2023

In 2023, we celebrated the 766th anniversary of the granting of Honiton’s Market Charter and the theme was “Historical Honiton” with Honiton Museum being our chosen charity.

The day began with the ringing of St Paul’s church bells heralding the reading of the Market Charter by the Town Crier before he presented it to the Town Mayor.

We were delighted that Councillors Madame Petit and Madame Moulin and their husbands who were in Honiton to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the twinning between Mezidon Canon and Honiton were able to attend.

There was plenty of live music and magic from George the Magician, window displays following the historical Honiton theme and plenty of market stalls lining the High Street. Off the High Street, there were charity and local organisation stalls in Northcote Lane and Allhallows Playing Field an abundance of things to see and do.

There were plenty of groups entertaining in the main ring throughout the day as well as Fancy Dress Competition and a dog show as well as Classic Cars and Tractors, bouncy castles, a mechanical bull, charity stalls, a forge, a wheelwright, a potters wheel, shire horses, llamas, skittles, stocks, Punch and Judy, face painting, the Fire Service, The Police Tractor, a food village, arts and crafts and a display of the artwork from Honiton Primary School. Just off the field, Honiton Community College hosted the Honiton Community Swap Shop.
